Refined sugars

Several studies have shown that refined sugars can promote inflammation. This can lead to pain, swelling and redness. That is why it is wise to reduce the intake of sugar. A good alternative for people with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis is Stevia. This is a natural sweetener that is extracted from the Stevia plant. It contains glycosides that are 300 times sweeter than sugar. Stevia does not contain calories.

Refined grains

Refined grains can also promote inflammation in the joints, because they are converted into sugars quickly after consumption. The refining process also means that all valuable nutrients have disappeared from the grains. Therefore, prefer to eat whole meal bread or spelled bread.

Artificial sweeteners

Do you already see a pattern? All foods that are not natural or have undergone radical industrial processing can hurt your joints. Artificial sweeteners – which are invisibly packaged in numerous foods – can also trigger inflammatory reactions. The Malcolm Randall Center in Florida reports that four patients with the rheumatic condition fibromyalgia spontaneously healed when they eliminated the glutamate flavor enhancer and the aspartame sweetener from their diet. The complaints returned when they started using these artificial flavors again.

Vegetable oils

Vegetable oils – such as corn oil, peanut oil and soy oil – can also cause inflammation in the joints. This also applies to some types of olive oil. Only use extra virgin olive oil in the kitchen. This kind is good for your health and can even help reduce inflammation.
